Trey Wackman, Artist Statement

Making art is about delving into the things that pique my curiosity. My work is an exploration of the way in which things come together: form, shadow/light, geometry, geology, mathematics, macrocosms/microcosms, and cellular biology. I generally work in metal, but also paint. I really prefer the physicality of metalwork though. There is a lot of primal energy in the process even when using modern equipment and techniques. There are also so many ways to join metals....so I guess it’s back to, “the ways in which things come together.”

I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1993 with a BFA in painting. Since college I have been doing custom metal work in Santa Fe.
